Engineering Drawings Collection
In the early 1990s North Star Steel Ohio donated to our predecessor organization, the Jeannette Blast Furnace Preservation Association, their complete collection of Youngstown Sheet and Tube Brier Hill Works engineering drawings. This collection amounts to between 10,000 and 15,000 individual drawings of the Brier Hill Works from 1908 to 1979. Included in the collection are drawings of the coke plant, Grace and Jeannette blast furnaces, open hearth, blooming mills, continuous and merchant mills, plate mills and electric weld tube department. Most are original linens.
At other times this collection has been added to with the addition of several hundred original linens of the Campbell blast furnaces, drawings of misc. steel industry rolling stock, a collection of maps and charts from the YS&T field engineers office, and drawings of the four rolling mill engines at the Republic Steel Youngstown plant.
We are currently scanning the drawing collection and have made available to the public almost 2,000 drawings in the form of CD ROMS. These CDs are available at our ebay Steel History and Heritage store. These drawings are wonderful primary source material for researchers, historians and modelers and we are happy to have been able to preserve this wonderful resource of steel industry information.
