Ground level view showing operating gallery between the two sides of this twin tandem engine.
Gas cylinder of number 16 twin tandem engine. Several of the engines were equipped with air pumps located above the bedplates and driven by the crankshafts. These pumps provided air to the cylinders under pressure, an attempt at increasing the horsepower and efficiency of the engines. The aire pump on this engine can be seen on the extreme right at the end of the large diameter pipe.
Blowing tubs on the line of single tandem engines. The blue piping n the left are manifolds which were used to connect a particular blowing engine to any one of five blast furnaces.
Number 11 engine is in the foreground, with the four twin tandem engines behind it. The bright area is a 50' x 50' opening in the end wall.
